The market was not only hit by the report of Rightmove, showing that sellers had cut the asking price in the UK at the fastest pace since the beginning of 2018 in August, as well as a profit warning from the housebuilder Crest Nicholson.
The company stated that it expected to generate PS50m in pre-tax profit this year, a drop from the previous forecasts of PS73.4m. The company said the economic conditions were “worsened” due to “persistently high inflation and rising interest rates.”
Crest Nicholson stated that mortgage costs are putting off buyers, especially first-time buyers, who need more funds to fund their purchases. They were also no longer able to access programs offered by the government, such as Help to Buy.
The news also hit other housebuilders who were among the worst fallers of the FTSE 100 by 3 p.m. on Monday. These included Taylor Wimpey, down 4.8 percent; Berkeley Group, down 2.9 percent; Persimmon, down 2.5 percent; and Barratt Developments, down 2.4 percent.
The data wizards at ONS have discovered that the measure of all items of cost of living reached its peak months ago and is currently dropping to 6.4 percent; the extent of inflation that is persistent is taking longer to reach its peak and is now at 6.8 percent.
(For purposes of this exercise, the ONS employs their CPIH measurement of inflation, which also includes housing costs, rather than the more popularly published CPI.)
The prices consumers pay at cafes and restaurants are one of the most reliable indicators of the trends that underlie inflation, The ONS declares.
In reality, the study will not provide Threadneedle Street’s setters of interest rates, something they still need to have in mind. Still, it’s another evidence pointing to a further increase in the cost of borrowing.

“We are grateful to our elected officials for allowing us the chance to discuss our vision to deliver good-paying jobs, affordable housing, walkable communities, clean energy, sustainable infrastructure, open space and a healthy environment,” said Brian Brokaw on behalf of California Forever.
“Our team is working closely with the community and will continue to meet with local leaders to craft a shared vision for Solano county’s future.”
Local officials have expressed concern and doubt regarding the plan, including John Garamendi, a congressmember who stated that it was “engaged in despicable, secretive, terrible practices”.
